What is C.L.A.S.S.?
C.L.A.S.S. is an organization driven by creativity and innovation. Led by a faculty of extraordinary educators, C.L.A.S.S. transforms research-based ideas into exceptional educational services and materials to aid in preparing future generations for their world

The Company

C.L.A.S.S. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Indianapolis, Indiana. C.L.A.S.S. was founded in 1989 by Barbara Pedersen, a nationally recognized leader in cognitive development and curriculum design and instruction. From 1989-2007, C.L.A.S.S. operated under the auspice of the Indiana State Department of Education. Since its inception, C.L.A.S.S. has served thousands of educators and administrators as a planning model in best practice teaching strategies for the State of Indiana. In 2007, C.L.A.S.S. incorporated as an independent nonprofit corporation and began to outline a strategy for translating 18 years of success in Indiana to school districts, schools, and teachers across the United States and around the world. Today, C.L.A.S.S. is actively developing programs for professional development and school improvement with programs in nine states and an active plan for expansion across the United States and into other countries.

The Culture
C.L.A.S.S. believes that given the proper support and guidance, that all people have the ability to be productive contributors to the world. It is the interdependence of character/social development and cognitive development that drives these abilities. How this action is conducted drives the C.L.A.S.S. mission, resources and services.

The Foundation
The C.L.A.S.S. philosophy is grounded in the belief that best teaching practices are based from the understanding of the human brain; a systemic understanding of human beings; and the interactions among human beings and the environment. The science of the brain has evolved significantly in the past decade and continues to do so. One reason is the growing intersections of findings from several disciplines including neuroscience, cognitive psychology, sociology, philosophy, education, technology, creativity research, gifted research, and physics. Another is the newly developing science of brain imaging, which has rapidly accelerated our understanding of the brain and the human mind. Utilizing findings of research on brain-based learning, the C.L.A.S.S. Model has transformed entire school communities, weaving climate, community, and curriculum together in positive and purposeful ways.
